Future Goals
However some exciting news of what was accomplished in 2024 - completion of the Firecircle Tourism Entrepreneurship Program for Rural Tourism + Entrepreneurs. The comprehensive Business Program ran me through a years worth of work, mentorship, feedback, development (and re-development!) for Salt+Sickle Homestead. Armed with solid numbers, knowledge and a path forward, I am looking forward to developing Salt+Sickle Homestead into the true gem it is capable of becoming. Stay tuned. It’s going to be a very big year!

A Homestead is a work in progress.
As Salt+Sickle Homestead enters its third year of operation, there is much to get situated for the future! From tree seedlings becoming firmly rooted in the earth, to infrastructure improvements that make it possible to grow food, host events, guests, et all.
Included in these improvements are a seasonal covered accessible event space, fully accessible accommodations and further improved accessible access to the land itself.
Spring 2023. New no-till garden beds + beginning of Barn infrastructure updates
Summer 2023. Siding stripped from Barn for re-finishing.
Solar power installed.
2023
Fall 2023. New 12”x1” locally hand-milled Pine boards installed for siding. Pine batten to be installed Spring 2024.
Spring 2024. We reclaimed a wild blackberry patch to make a new garden plot. Luckily this one was untouched in the storms.
Early Spring 2024. Updates inside the Barn: Insulation, Cabinetry, Lights and Storage for Seed-Starting. Expanding our space x3
July 11th was a dark day. The amount of water that came down in only a few hours time washed away roads, bridges and more.
Due to the speed of the water, it took much of our topsoil with it. Many plants were stripped to their roots, exposed.
July 11th - the flooding broke and swept away the road, diverting water through our yard to the creek that runs to the Ocean.
Potatoes were dead within 3 days. Beans and peas suffered, rallying back slightly.
2025
Going into 2025 Salt+Sickle Homestead is ready to reap the rewards of three years of infrastructure updates. From the property to the soil; to removal of invasive species and correction of clear-cut sections of land. We’ve spent two years tending and correcting, and we’re ready to take our lessons from 2023 and 2024 into 2025.
Winter/Spring 2025. Trails and passageways are being expanded for mobility through the property.
Winter/Spring 2025. Plans are being made to develop Accommodations on the Homestead.
2024
2024 was a challenging year to say the least. From scorching temps to flash flooding it really ran the gamut in terms of the environmental effects impeding our ability to produce. We lost a lot of food. We had whole garden plots washed away in knee-deep flooding. While we were able to create and improve new spaces in the Barn and on the property - we didn’t get to fully utilize these spaces, and look forward to a full season of use in 2025.
Summer 2025 PROJECTED OPENING DATE FOR ACCOMMODATION.
Blackberries! Baked goods, sauces, jams - you name it, we made it.
Not all was lost! The Garlic succeeded despite being drenched for the summer. It cured well, and provides a promising look to 2025.
Over 400 cloves of garlic planted for 2025!
